How to Faithfully Interpret Scripture

Do you have a curiosity to answer all the possible questions that may come to mind as you study scripture? Beyond reading the scripture and making observations, Caroline Smiley will give you the guidance and tools you need to interpret Scripture faithfully with humility and wisdom. We want you to have confidence to interpret Scripture for yourself, not by yourself. Take this step into diving a bit deeper into studying God's Word.

Caroline Smiley lives in Dallas, Texas with her husband and three young children where she teaches Bible study at her home church, Eastside Community Church. Her passion is making theology accessible to the church, especially women. Caroline is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in New Testament.

Developing a Biblical and Theological Understanding of the Physical Body

Many of the women to whom we minister are unsure how to think about their own bodies. We can quote Genesis 1:27 "so God created man in his own image” but how does this practically apply to our understanding of our whole person. Alex Ford will help you better understand what the Bible says about the body, and how to integrate this understanding in discipleship and teaching. You will be equipped to receive women who are struggling through various body related issues, and lovingly help them understand how to apply the understanding that we have been created in God's image.

Alexandria Ford serves as a certified wellness coach, and as a teaching assistant for The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. Her desire is to encourage believers to live well for the glory of God.

Teaching the Story of Scripture

Because we believe that the Bible is the true story of the world, we want to be faithful to teach the story accurately. Many of those we disciple are not as familiar with the true story and tend to see Scripture as a series of disconnected short stories rather than one unified narrative that reveals God's purpose for us and all of creation. In this workshop Elizabeth will provide a helpful resource and outline so that you can teach others the overarching narrative and themes of the Bible as well as helping others find their own place in the larger story of Scripture.

Elizabeth Woodson is a passionate Bible teacher whose deepest desire is to know Christ and make him known! She currently has the joy to serve on staff at The Village Church writing curriculum, teaching, and developing leaders. Elizabeth is also a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary with a master’s in Christian education. You can find her at www.elizabethwoodson.org.

Mothering and Ministering: Is Balance Possible? (a panel discussion)

Making time to study the Word, especially to lead and teach, is valuable. But for those of us in the season of mothering young children, finding the right time and balance to be faithful to the Word and faithful to our families can be particularly challenging. How do we balance being first and foremost a daughter of God and on mission for the Kingdom, knowing that our families are a very valuable expression of our mission but not always our only mission? Joined by a panel of women who are faithfully teaching in their own community, Caroline will guide us through a helpful discussion that will speak encouragement and creativity into finding balance in ministry and mothering. This is not a one-size-fits-all solution, but a glimpse into different perspectives in the midst of this season of life.

Caroline will be joined by Colleen Searcy, Angie Likens, Kelsey Hency, Melissa Deming and Aina Carruth.

Equipping Women to Facilitate Bible Study in Small Groups

Friends, we can't do it alone. If you are doing it all, then you most likely feel overwhelmed with the demands and responsibilities. Summer has personally learned the joy of identifying other women to join her in leadership, and how to help equip those women to take on the role of small group facilitator in the Bible study context. You will be given practical tools to identify potential leaders, to address obstacles and objections women may have in regards to taking leadership roles, and to equip these women to lead their small group with excellence.

Summer Lacy is the author of His Word Alone; A call to put down your Bible studies and pick up your Bible. It is her great joy to write and teach for the women of Church Project, The Woodlands, which she and her family call home.
