Teaching Good Theology to Kids: The Story of Scripture

The Bible tells a story - the true and great story of God, His world and a people He loves. It is a story about God, but it is also our story - the history and heritage of the people of God. Helping children understand, believe and find their place in God’s big story is an essential part of discipleship. But it's hard work! How do you tell the individual stories of scripture in a way that keeps the whole story in view, with God at the center? This workshop will help you think carefully about teaching the story of scripture to the children in your home, church, school or family and equip you with practical tools to do so.

Anne Lincoln Holibaugh serves as the Associate Minister of Next Gen and Family Equipping at The Village Church Denton. She has ministered to children and families within the local church for 15 years and has developed curriculum, designed classes and created learning environments for children and families to grow in their knowledge of and love for God. Anne Lincoln also serves as an advisor for Proclaim Truth.

How to Craft a Rule of Life

There are necessary physical rhythms of our body: breathing, heart beating, blinking. The same is true on a spiritual level. Learning to develop a Rule of Life is about arranging your life to actually be abundant - rather than tired, busy or frustrated. By clarifying your life’s vision, spiritual gifts and desires, your life in Christ can be transformed in concrete ways. In this workshop, you will bring clarity to your deepest values, most important relationships and highest priorities, and feel motivated to remove what may be wasting time and depleting energy. We will learn to model Jesus' self awareness he teaches in John 10.

Developing a Biblical and Theological Understanding of the Physical Body

Many of the women to whom we minister are unsure how to think about their own bodies. We can quote Genesis 1:27 "so God created man in his own image” but how does this practically apply to our understanding of our whole person. Alex Ford will help you better understand what the Bible says about the body, and how to integrate this understanding in discipleship and teaching. You will be equipped to receive women who are struggling through various body related issues, and lovingly help them understand how to apply the understanding that we have been created in God's image.

Alexandria Ford serves as a certified wellness coach, and as a teaching assistant for The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. Her desire is to encourage believers to live well for the glory of God.

The Teacher's Toolbox

As teacher's we feel a great responsibility that our students are understanding the content and ultimately growing and being transformed to the image of Christ. Prof. Howard Hendricks says, "Good teachers can't be focused on what they do, but on what their students are doing." If you have wondered why the content is not affecting transformation in your students, then consider this workshop. There is a reality that not everyone learns in the same way, and there are tools that you can use to creatively help others know God at any age and in any setting. Erin will walk you through understanding different learning styles and give you the best tools to add to your curriculum that will effectively encourage gospel transformation in your students.

Teaching the Story of Scripture

Because we believe that the Bible is the true story of the world, we want to be faithful to teach the story accurately. Many of those we disciple are not as familiar with the true story and tend to see Scripture as a series of disconnected short stories rather than one unified narrative that reveals God's purpose for us and all of creation. In this workshop Elizabeth will provide a helpful resource and outline so that you can teach others the overarching narrative and themes of the Bible as well as helping others find their own place in the larger story of Scripture.

Elizabeth Woodson is a passionate Bible teacher whose deepest desire is to know Christ and make him known! Sharing the Gospel with Children

It is an amazing gift to be able to help children understand and respond to the Gospel but sometimes we don't feel as equipped to do so as we would like. Whether you are presenting the plan of salvation once or are making consistent investments in a child's spiritual future, Jenni will give you the framework to do so with simplicity and honesty.

Jenni Hamm is passionate about teaching others the truths of Scripture and the greatness of our God. She enjoys spending time with her husband, Jeff, and their four children and serving with women’s Bible study and the NextGen ministries at The Village Church in Flower Mound, TX.

Mothering and Ministering: Is Balance Possible? (a panel discussion)

Making time to study the Word, especially to lead and teach, is valuable. But for those of us in the season of mothering young children, finding the right time and balance to be faithful to the Word and faithful to our families can be particularly challenging. How do we balance being first and foremost a daughter of God and on mission for the Kingdom, knowing that our families are a very valuable expression of our mission but not always our only mission? Joined by a panel of women who are faithfully teaching in their own community, Caroline will guide us through a helpful discussion that will speak encouragement and creativity into finding balance in ministry and mothering. This is not a one-size-fits-all solution, but a glimpse into different perspectives in the midst of this season of life.

Caroline will be joined by Colleen Searcy, Angie Likens, Kelsey Hency, Melissa Deming and Aina Carruth.

Caroline Smiley lives in Dallas, Texas with her husband and three young children where she teaches Bible study at her home church, Eastside Community Church. Her passion is making theology accessible to the church, especially women. Caroline is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in New Testament.

First Steps: Discipleship of Women in the Church

Church size does not dictate the need, value, or method of teaching God's Word to others faithfully. In this workshop, Courtney will provide the biblical basis for ministry to women in the local church, and share practical tools and ideas for beginning a word-based ministry among the women in your community. By the end of your time together, you will have a vision and planned path to move forward in serving your local body.

Courtney Reissig is a writer and bible teacher. Courtney is a mom to four boys and a wife to Daniel. They are members of Midtown Baptist Church in Little Rock, AR, where her husband serves as an elder and she leads the women's ministry.

Living and Loving with Hope in the Midst of Suffering and Trauma

As a leader in the church, you may face the moment when a woman in your community suffers trauma or a woman shares the effects of past trauma with you. Do you feel inadequate in that moment, or fear causing more damage in trauma related counseling? We believe in the hope of the ultimate healer; but how do we share that with the women we are walking with? In this workshop, Angie Durham will answer these questions so you can understand and recognize trauma symptoms and know how to best walk alongside suffering women with wisdom and compassion.

Angie Durham is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LMFTS and LPCS). She has been a Biblical Counselor at North Texas Christian Counseling since 2007. She is also a Care Deacon at The Village Church in Flower Mound and has two sons.

Equipping Women to Facilitate Bible Study in Small Groups

Friends, we can't do it alone. If you are doing it all, then you most likely feel overwhelmed with the demands and responsibilities. Summer has personally learned the joy of identifying other women to join her in leadership, and how to help equip those women to take on the role of small group facilitator in the Bible study context. You will be given practical tools to identify potential leaders, to address obstacles and objections women may have in regards to taking leadership roles, and to equip these women to lead their small group with excellence.

Summer Lacy is the author of His Word Alone; A call to put down your Bible studies and pick up your Bible. It is her great joy to write and teach for the women of Church Project, The Woodlands, which she and her family call home.

Developing a Philosophy of Teaching

Often times, we find ourselves in a position of teaching others the Word but haven't quite developed our “voice.” And often times we have been faithfully teaching for a while, but we need a reminder on the biblical and theological foundation for why we teach God’s Word. If this resonates with you, then this workshop will encourage your heart and give context for creating your own philosophy of teaching. You will develop a mission statement for yourself in order to help guide, encourage and reorient your heart around why you do what you do.
